Dear Neighbors:

As you know, in June of 2007 the Village Board voted to direct the Village Attorney to file a Complaint for Demolition of Unsafe Building in the Circuit Court of the 22nd Judicial Circuit of McHenry County against the owner of the two-story, 8-unit
apartment building located at 5024 Barnard Mill Road. I wanted to let you know the
Circuit Court will begin hearing this case on May 5, 2008. I will keep you informed
of the Court's decision and any additional issues that may arise in this matter.
In other Village news, I would like to thank the McHenry Township Road District and Deppmeier Trucking & Excavation (DTE) for all their efforts this past winter to keep our Village roads clear of snow and ice. As you know by now and I personally
experienced, this winter was one for the record books. We had a record amount of
snow this past winter with 77.8 inches of snow beating the old record of 74.5 inches set back in 1978-79. However, the more daunting figure is the amount of snow storms we had this winter. The Township and DTE had to respond to over 50 separate snow storms this winter. In addition, the Village used a record 200 tons of salt. Through it all, your Village officials greatly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding with this very difficult and challenging winter season.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding these or any other Village matters.

Sincerely,
Richard E. Mack
Village President

March is the month that ushers in the Tornado Season. Most of us in Illinois are familiar with the safety
precautions needed to keep our families safe. To do so, however, we need to know when severe weather is in our
area. With this in mind, your village board wants to provide the following information about the Oregon
Scientific Emergency Weather Radio Model WR601. What makes this radio unique is the S.A.M.E. technology,
which makes it possible to program for emergencies specific to McHenry County. It can be left plugged in with
its ac adapter in standby mode and will only come on automatically in an emergency situation. To be sure this
feature is working a test message is sent from Crystal Lake every Wednesday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The WR601 is also battery powered and can be taken with you on trips. The latest forecast information may be
received at any time by pressing the NOAA button. There is also a channel for receiving from any nearby
National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service (NWS) up to the minute
information. In addition all Amber Alert messages are sent to this receiver.

The McHenry County Department of Health is recommending that all homeowners test their homes for radon
The speed limit on Barnarnd Mill entering Ringwood from the West will soon be reduced for safety.

Mossquii tto Abaa tteemeentt ::

Ringwood has an Intergovernmental Agreement with McHenry Township to provide mosquito abatement within
the corporate limits of the Village of Ringwood. The Township has hired Clarke Mosquito Control to perform
mosquito abatement within unincorporated and incorporated areas of McHenry Township.
Clarke's responsibility to you…

• To abate existing mosquito breeding sources.

• To prevent new breeding sites.

• To protect the health and comfort.

Breeding sources that Clarke controls are created by standing water, which may be found in street catch-basins,
subdivision drains, roadside ditches, flood channels, ravines and other public right-of-way. Routine larviciding,
done as necessary throughout the season, will keep these areas mosquito free.
Yaa rrd & Homee Chee cckll ii ss tt
• Get rid of old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums, bottles or any water holding
containers.
• Keep drains, ditches and culverts clean of weeds and trash so water will drain
properly.
• Cover trash containers to keep out rain water.
• Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets.
• Empty plastic wading pool at least once a week and store it indoors when not in use.
• Make sure your backyard pool is properly cared for while on vacation.
• Change water in bird baths and plant pots or drip trays at least once a week.
• Keep grass cut short and shrubbery well trimmed around the house so adult
mosquitoes will not hide there.

Ringwood History

Your Village Officials wanted to share a piece of our history with you. Below you will see two pictures; the first
picture was taken in 1909 of the former Ringwood Train station and a locomotive with unknown railroad workers.
The former Ringwood train station was located halfway between Barnard Mill and Ringwood Road, behind the
red barn that you can see today from the Ringwood Commons Park. The second picture is of Barnard Mill Road
east of the intersection of Ringwood and Barnard Mill Road. We believe this picture was taken around the late
1800's or early 1900's, because Barnard Mill Road was still a dirt road and the horse and buggy in the picture.
